The market for wheeled loaders in 15 of the largest western European countries came to a shade under 20,000 machines last year, according to specialist consultant and forecasting company Off-Highway Research.

Komatsu accelerates its development of smaller surface mining drills

Komatsu today announced it is accelerating the development of smaller drills for surface mining applications. Furthering its commitment to be a full solutions provider to the mining industry, Komatsu is expanding its P&H product line to include articulating boom track drills. The first machine in the series, the 44XT, is now being tested at the company’s Arizona Proving Grounds prior to release later this year. The 44XT is capable of drilling 4” to 8” (102 to 203 mm) diameter holes using down-the-hole (DTH) percussive hammers. Caterpillar adding more to its next generation surface mining drill offering

In October 2018, Caterpillar is to launch another new surface drill in the form of the small rotary MD6200, a highly transportable offering (has the option for example to leave the mast on and load it on a truck for moving to another mine, jobsite or bench area), which is expected to be available in the market in Q1 2019. While a large part of its market will be quarry applications it will also have several special mining applications. This model will drill holes of <8 in diameter. Skyjack has debuted the SJ519 TH telehandler. The compact unit is the first of its kind in Skyjack’s product offering and features a 5,500-pound (2,500 kg) capacity and a maximum lift hegith of 19 feet, 1 inch (5.82 m.)

Equipped with an EPA Tier 4 Final certified engine and a new viscous fan clutch, engine parasitic loads are now lower, and according to the company, productivity is up to 4% higher compared to the previous model.
